Beth Tappin started teaching in 1985 and has always believed that education needs to be planned around student interests and strengths. Our community is such a rich place to learn, that it seems a natural extension to the classroom for students. She has always loved the ability to create learning programs for individual students and their specific needs. She is married and has two beautiful sons who are growing into amazing young men. In her free time, she loves painting, reading, playing the harp and teaching art to children. She is so pleased to see so many former students continuing their passion for art into adulthood. It is her sincere joy to be part of this incredible school, with such amazing parents, administrators and students.
Cheri Fuentes spent her early career working in adult education in Santa Barbara after graduating from the University of California, Santa Barbara. When she began working for an educational social services non-profit organization in Oxnard, her career plans changed. She launched homework clubs at two Oxnard elementary schools in socio-economically challenged areas. She fell in love with teaching children and decided to make a big career change. She went back to school and earned her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential at California State University, Channel Islands in 2011. For the last four years, she has worked for Ventura Charter School as a 1-2 teacher and at other schools throughout Ventura and Oxnard School Districts. She began her role as a supervising teacher at the Ventura Charter School Homeschool Program in January 2014. She strives to support every parent and student in individualized education that best suits the needs, strengths and learning style of each student. In the homeschool enrichment classroom, Cheri focuses on learning respectful and non-violent communication with peers and all members of our local and global community while maintaining a safe, nurturing and fun learning environment for all. She guides students in classroom norms that support the whole child through creative learning opportunities that produce self-constructed learning based on individual background knowledge and group experience sharing. Cheri is the very proud mother of two amazing daughters, loves to cook and bake with locally produced ingredients and to walk her three little dogs on the beach.
