Admission

The goal of the Ventura Charter School is to attract, enroll, and retain the broadest spectrum of students and families representative of the rich diversity existing in the County. The School is nonsectarian in its programs, admission policies, employment practices, and all other operations. Ventura Charter School does not charge tuition and does not discriminate in admissions or outreach against any student on the basis of ethnicity, national origin, gender, or disability.

If the number of students who wish to attend Ventura Charter School exceeds the School's capacity, enrollment will be determined by a public random drawing. Preference shall be extended to pupils currently attending the School and the following preferences, which are listed below in order of priority:

  1. Children of staff and governing board members (not to exceed 10% of the total student population)
  2. Siblings of students currently enrolled in the school
  3. Applicants who reside within the boundaries of E.P Foster Elementary School in the Ventura Unified School District.
  4. Applicants who reside within the boundaries of the Ventura Unified School District.
 
Admission for 2017-18 (Current Year)

Admission Steps for 2018-19
 

In order to be eligible for the lottery on February 23, 2018
each student must submit an application by February 21, 2018.

Students who apply after the lottery deadline will be added to our waiting list in the order that they are received.

Please note:  Students must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2018 to enter kindergarten for the 2018-19 school year.
 

Also, please visit www.shotsforschool.org for more information on the immunizations required for school entry.  All incoming Kindergarten and 7th grade students must be fully immunized. 

Information Meeting and School Tour:

Information Meetings and Tours are held several times throughout the year. At both our morning and evening information meetings the school philosophy, curriculum, and parental commitment are explained. During our morning tours interested parents/guardians will also get to visit the classrooms and have questions answered by classroom teachers and parents of students.  All meetings are held at the school located at the back of the DeAnza (DATA) Middle School campus at 2060 Cameron Street in Ventura.

Please note that morning tours are not held if it is raining and all attendees who have RSVP'd will be notified by email no later than 7am on the morning of the tour if we need to cancel or reschedule. 

Space is limited, please RSVP at shawndara.b@venturacharterschool.us or (805)648-5503 ext. 1004 indicating your preferred date and the number of adults attending. It is requested that parents/guardians attend these events without their children unless applying for middle school.  Students applying for grades 6-8 are encouraged to attend the tour.

Submit a 2018-19 Application (or see the link at top right of this page) 

 

Applications are available at each information meeting and school tour. Applications must be received no later than 4:00pm on February 21, 2018 in order to be considered for the lottery for the 2018-19 school year.  A random lottery will be held on February 23, 2018. Acceptance to the school is based on availability of space.  Priority is given to siblings of enrolled students and those residing within the Ventura Unified School District boundaries.  Applications and waiting lists are valid until the following year's lottery.  Students not admitted during the school year must submit a new application for the lottery each year. 

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Due to the number of applicants, we are unable to contact every family with lottery results.  Only the families of those students who receive seats will be contacted right away.  All other applicants should feel free to contact the school to establish an individual student’s placement on the waiting list after March 12, 2018.

Visitation/Orientation

Families who are offered placement will be contacted to schedule an orientation or visitation with their student.

Directions to the school:  Our campus is located at the back of DeAnza (DATA) Middle School.

  • From the US-101 Freeway
  • Merge onto CA-33 North
  • Exit at Stanley Ave., go right
  • Turn left at Ventura Avenue
  • Turn right at DeAnza Dr.
  • At Cameron St. veer to the right and continue all the way back to the parking lot adjacent the gymnasium.
  • Park in this lot and walk around the front of the gym, following the sidewalk to the gates of our campus on the opposite side of the gym. Please do not enter from the front of the DeAnza campus and walk through to ours.
  • We will be meeting in Room 12, feel free to check in at our office, up the second ramp on the right, if you cannot find it.
